Each of the 4 questions on the application form tests and examines one of the 4 competencies from the role of a police officer.

This often confuses candidates when completing the application as there are 7 core competencies yet there are only 4 questions on the application form. Many believe that the questions are designed to cover more than one competency and this is simply not true - the reason is purely a common sense decision.

Only 4 competencies are tested because of the strong relationship that these particular competencies have with the police officer job profile and "because more lengthy applications tend to put off applicants at this early".

Assessors are looking for key behaviours that the research has shown underpin those competencies. If they clearly see the behaviour they award a mark.  If they don’t see it clearly they don’t award a mark.
